Taiping is a town in Perak, Malaysia. It was also the first state capital of Perak, before Ipoh took its position. The town's development was halted after the replacement, but in recent years it has grown fast. Taiping is located on a coastal plain near the Bintang Range's foothills. The town is also known for being the wettest in Peninsular Malaysia. Its exceptional rainfall has also endowed its Lake Gardens with a lush and magnificent variety of flora and century-old raintrees.
